

Jose 'Joey' Luis Longoria, age 25 went home peacefully with God Our Father on Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, with his loving parents, brother, his fiancée, family and friends by his side.
Joey fought a courageous battle for two and a half years with leukemia. He eventually received a bone marrow transplant, but then due to complications he also went through a liver transplant. Due to further very uncommon complications with this procedure, our Lord called him home.
Joey was born and raised in Stafford, TX, graduated from Stafford High School in 1998. He was a lifetime active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Missouri City, TX, where he served as an alter server, was a member of the Columbian Squires, and received all his sacraments. Joey attended UT-San Antonio, where he was a member of the men's basketball team as a graduate assistant coach for 5 years. He received his degree in Kinesiology and was pursuing a Master's degree in education. Coaching basketball at the college level was his lifetime dream.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Adelaido Longoria and Arnolfo Fonseca. He is survived by his loving parents: Joe and Olga Longoria from Stafford, TX; older brother, Gabriel and wife Caela Longoria, ; niece, Olivia Christine Longoria from Stafford, TX; his fiancée Michelle Schooley from San Antonio, TX; grandmothers, Angelita Longoria and Hermelinda Garcia of Raymondville, TX and many other family and friends.
The world has lost a great young man but God's heaven has gained a shinning bright star. Joey, we love you very much. We will all miss you very dearly.
Pallbearers will be: Staff Sgt. Tony Salazar Jr., Edgar Martinez, Farhan Faiz, Felipe Rivera, Sammy Cervantez, III, Dick Wager, John Morales and Michael Fanner. Honorary Pallbearers will be: UTSA Men's Basketball, "The Crew", Kayden Fanner, Joshua Garza, Ronnie Morgan, and Trey Adams, in memory of his brother John.
