

Jose Antonio “Tony’ Sanchez passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife, Joye and family on October 30, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 78. Tony was beloved by all who met him, a man with a genuine heart of gold whose humor, strength, and kindness will be greatly missed by his many dear family members and friends.
Tony was born on August 18, 1946, in Eagle Pass, Texas, to Jose and Josefina Sanchez. After graduating from high school in Eagle Pass in 1964, he attended Southwest Texas State University. He graduated from the University in 1968 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education. He was a member of “T” Letterman’s Club, having demonstrated both academic and athletic excellence. Tony was a fantastically talented baseball player. He started with Little League in Eagle Pass and his father was the coach. He played all the way through high school and college where he pitched all four years at SWTSU. Following college, Tony began his teaching career in Lubbock, Texas. He later settled in San Antonio and taught at Sam Rayburn Middle School and Canyon High School. After years of teaching, he embarked on a new career in sales as top salesman for Educational Textbook Companies. He won awards for being the highest-rated salesman in the country and his customers loved him.
On March 26, 1988, Tony married the love of his live, Joye Talbert Sanchez. Together they spent 36 wonderful years doing all the things they loved: attending Spurs games, showering attention on their many dogs, traveling the world, and especially spending time with adored sons and grandsons.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jason Sanchez; and brother-in-law, Jerry Inloes. He is survived by his loving wife, Joye; sister, Sylvia Inloes; son, Alex Sanchez; grandsons, Samuel (Sarah) Renfrow, and Jacob Madison; niece and nephews, Nichole (Arthur) Moreno, Gerald “Jerry” (Nicole) Inloes, and Steven (Lilibeth) Inloes; his aunts, Dora Elia Martinez, and Rosalina Balderas; many other beloved family members and friends; special family members, Elizabeth and Galen Madison, Jennifer and Frank Scelso; and numerous cousins.
