Born on April 5, 1926, in Brownsville, Texas, Josefina was the cherished daughter of Octavia and Pablo Hernandez. Her life was a tapestry of devotion to family, faith, and her community.

Josefina's journey led her to El Paso, Texas, where she established herself as a Master Seamstress with the Singer Company, a role that showcased her exceptional talent and unwavering dedication. After retiring, she returned to Brownsville in 2008, seeking the comfort and proximity of her beloved family following the death of her husband, Donald K. Tischler.

Aunt Fina, as she was affectionately known by her numerous nephews and nieces, shared a close bond with her two sisters, Consuelo Hernandez Munoz (Cipriano) and Antonia Hernandez (Ambrosio), and her brothers, Juan Hernandez (Irma) and Roberto Hernandez (Mela). Her family was her pride and joy, and she nurtured those relationships with the same care and attention she gave to her exquisite needlework.

Throughout her life, Josefina's faith was a guiding light. As a devout Catholic, she was an active member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Brownsville, Texas. Her faith journey continued when she moved to San Antonio in 2023, where she was inducted into the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Her parents had instilled in her a love of family and church, which remained steadfast throughout her life. Josefina's commitment to her faith was evident in her daily recitation of the Rosary, a practice that provided her with great solace and strength.

Josefina's youthful beauty was often described as 'incandescent,' a reflection of the radiant spirit she carried within her.
