Joseph Prue Benson (Joe) died peacefully on December 29, 2015. He was born in Beaumont, Texas, grew up in Houston and in high school was a Colonel in the ROTC and played sousaphone in the marching band. He served stateside during the Korean War.
After earning his accounting degree from the University of Houston and his CPA license, he became a special agent of the FBI where he specialized in white collar crime, learned to speak Spanish fluently and worked until his retirement. He played an important role during the trials of those involved in the assassination of Federal Judge John Wood. He was an active member of the former FBI Agents in San Antonio.
Survived by beloved wife, Ann Gipson Benson; daughter, Ginny (Godsey) and her husband, Johnathan; stepdaughter, Zia Gipson and her husband, Richard; stepson, Mark Gipson and his wife, Susie; grandson, Eric (Godsey); granddaughters, Elizabeth (Guffre) and her husband, Mike, Melanie (Hampton) and her husband, Eric and great grandchildren, Ryan (Godsey) and Rowen (Hampton); sister, Vivian Sanders and many beloved nieces and nephews, including, James and Sue Goldenberg and Pat and Ed Martin, neighbors and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Joseph Prue and Vivian Benson; wife, Eleanor Denny Benson and son, Gary Benson.
