He is preceded in death by his wife, Gene Bellas Gugenheim; parents, Jacob Elton Gugenheim and Rosetta Dreyfus Gugenheim; daughter-in-law, Judith C. Gugenheim; brother, Jac Elton Gugenheim Jr.; and sister, Irma Oppenheim.
Mr. Gugenheim was a graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA.
He was a Captain in the U.S. Army; a veteran of World War II and was involved in the Pacific Campaign.
He was a partner in Gugenheim-Goldsmith Co., a wholesale distributor of produce and frozen food. Mr. Gugenheim became a sole proprietor of Gugenheim Co. and retired in 1986.
He was a member of the San Antonio Country Club.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Jacobson; his children: Joseph J. Gugenheim Jr. of Houston, David C. Gugenheim of Austin and Nancy G. Gugenheim of Dallas; and his daughter-in-law, Terri B. Gugenheim of Houston.
