

Joseph A. Holstine, age 75, went to his eternal home on Thursday, October 25th after a long illness. Originally from Detroit Michigan, Joseph had a career in the US Army where he lived in Alaska, and Hawaii, before finally choosing to make his home in San Antonio, Texas. After his army career, which included several tours of Vietnam, Joe retired as a Sergeant. Joe also retired from Frost Bank and KLN Steel Products Company. He enjoyed keeping busy through his employment late into his early 60's. Joe loved to work with his hands which can be noted in his numerous wood making crafts, along with collecting stamps and camping with his friends. He was a member of the good neighbor Sam RV group representing one of many chapters in San Antonio. Joe will always be remembered for his big and caring heart and kindness to others. “Joe, you will be loved and missed by all who knew you“ .
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Thelma.
Joe is survived by his longtime best friend and love of his life, Jeri Clary and her two daughters, Cindy Meyer and Sue Growcock and their husbands- John and Jerry. He loved Sue's children Kristen, Jason and Jenny very much. Joe is also survived by his son, Joe Jr. and his wife; daughter, Julie and her son Chase; and 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Joe will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, where friends and family may gather for a visitation from 8:30-9:30 prior to services. Joe will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas after the memorial service.
