Joseph J. Piekos, age 83, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, in Devine Texas. He was born in Lowell, MA on March 20, 1939, to Joseph Martin Piekos and Caroline Maciolek Piekos. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Eric Piekos; and brother, Raymond Piekos.
Joseph is survived by his adoring wife of 58 ½ years, Secilie Glaeser Piekos; daughter, Caroline Robison and her husband, Mike; his beloved grandson, Hunter Farias; brother, Frank Piekos and his wife, Resa; and his nieces and nephews: Melissa Ruehl, Michael Piekos, Lori Granata, Raymond “Chip” Piekos, Kari Gicquêre and their families.
Joe attended Kene Teachers College for three years. Before he completed his degree, he decided to join the military. He proudly served his country from 1960 to 1964 in the United States Air Force. He met his wife Secilie once he got out of basic training at Lackland Air Force Base. They went on a blind date with another couple and from there it was love at first sight. Both he and Secilie attended Southwest Texas State University. He received his BS in Industrial Arts in 1969. He loved wood working and made several items, including chestier draws that he made for his son Eric when he was a little boy. Joe taught Wood Shop and Math in Edgewood and East Central Independent School District for several years. He and Secilie were both devoted Christians and dedicated their lives to helping others. They were Stephen Ministers at Colonial Hills United Methodist Church. They were also very active in the Emmaus Community and involved in vacation bible school for many years. Joe was in charge of the Family Fiesta at CHUMC for a few years and he and Secilie helped take communion to church members who could no longer attend services.
Joe was a loving husband and father. He never wavered in his Christian Faith and always set a good example for his children and grandchild Hunter. He was especially close to Hunter whom he and Secilie took care of frequently when his daughter Caroline was at work. They volunteered at Hunter’s schools and they attended any and every event from his karate tournaments to his performances in choir and his basketball games. He was very proud of Hunter and would often say he was going to achieve great things in the future.
Words cannot describe how much he was loved and cherished. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He will live on in our hearts and minds Forever.
