

Joe (91) was born to first generation immigrants, Paul V. and Maria Grace Summa who moved from Italy in 1887. Joe was the eldest of three brothers Thomas, Charles and Paul and one sister, Jean.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Thelma Laylon, son, Henry Paul and daughter, Maria Jane.
Upon retirement from the US Army in 1971, Joe taught periodontics, dental lab and post graduate biology at the University of Connecticut, Georgetown Dental School and the University of Texas Health Science Centers at Houston and San Antonio where he ultimately retired from teaching.
Joe was a devout Catholic and member of Saint Anthony de Padua. He is survived by one brother; Paul, four children; Tim Summa of San Antonio, TX, Margaret Corbit of Mesa, AZ, Kathryn Burk of San Antonio, TX and Stephan Summa of New York City, NY, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 17, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
