October 30, 1934 – July 25, 2025
Josephine “Jo” Ferguson, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and faithful servant of Jesus, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 30, 1934, in Fredericksburg, Texas, to Louis A. Beyer and Erna Beyer, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Kenneth G. Ferguson, Brothers, Perry Beyer, Glen Beyer, wife Kathy. She is survived by her son Bryan J. Ferguson, wife Sandy, and daughter Karen G. Lutz, Husband Nathan P. Lutz. Grandchildren, Joel Lutz, and wife Christy, Matthew Lutz, wife Christin, Landon Lutz, Ritha House. Great Grandchildren Harper House, Abbey Lutz, Aubrey Lutz, Barret Lutz, Hadley Lutz. Sister Donna Powers, Husband Mike Powers, Sister-in-Law Pat Beyer.
Jo was rooted in faith from an early age. Her family were members of Zion Lutheran Church before moving to San Antonio when she was six, where they joined St. John’s Lutheran Church—a congregation that would remain central to her life for decades. Jo grew up attending Sunday school, playing baseball, and actively participating in Luther League. A proud graduate of Brackenridge High School in 1953, she began working at USAA the very next day. On July 9, 1954, Jo married the love of her life Kenneth Ferguson, and together they raised two children, Bryan and Karen. She was a dedicated and nurturing mother who remained at home through her children's early years, pouring her energy into their lives and her community.
Jo was deeply involved in school activities, the St. John's Lutheran Alter Guild, and Cradle Roll from 1959 to 1975. Once her children became teenagers, Jo began working at Garner Middle School—a job she loved so much that she stayed for 20 years, retiring in 1995.
She embraced retirement with joy, spending time with her four beloved grandchildren—Joel, Matthew, Landon, and Ritha—and planning countless summer vacations, trips to the lake, and visits to "Granny’s in the country." She never missed a game, a pep rally, or a school performance. Her presence at 4H events, football games, and college outings was a constant source of support and pride. She loved her trips to A&M Football games with a seat on the 48-yard line 1st row, courtesy of Alva and Leroy.
A family cruise to the Caribbean in celebration of her and her husband’s 50th wedding anniversary to include all the kids, grandkids & spouses, became a cherished memory for all.
Jo was the heart of family adventures, always planning with her signature spiral notebook in hand to ensure nothing was forgotten. She was the glue that held gatherings together and the spirit that made them special.
Her service to St. John’s Lutheran Church was abundant and unwavering. Jo gave of herself in many roles: Cradle Roll leader, Luther League sponsor, Evangelism committee member, Restoration committee member, Day School Board, Charter Member of Alter Guild, Chairman of Member Support, and President of the Women of St. John's. She was also a charter member supporting property and grounds, courtyard gardening, and the memorial brick ministry. She enjoyed quilting with the church group and served the community alongside her husband at the SAMMinistries shelter—often staying overnight to offer care and security.
Jo lived a life filled with grace, purpose, and selfless devotion. Her unwavering faith, love for family, and commitment to service leave an enduring legacy in the lives of those she touched.
