Josephine (Jo) worked at Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research here in San Antonio from 1966 to 1999. She served on the Board of Directors of Southwest Research Center Federal Credit Union from 1979 to 1984 and then again from 1987-1991. She remained a loyal customer and loved to see what new plantings were out in front of the credit union. Gardening was a lifelong passion and she always had beautiful and interesting plants in her yard and later on her balcony at the Meadows Retirement Community where she lived for the past five years. She was a long time volunteer with Gardening Volunteers of South Texas where she helped maintain the grounds at Woodlawn Lake, the Japanese Tea Garden, and many other places. Jo loved bridge and other games and played for years with the Mensa bridge group, eventually playing at the La Madeleine on Broadway until the Covid19 pandemic shut everyone in. Luckily for her, she was still able to play bridge and 42 with her friends at the Meadows. Jo loved visiting her mother's family on the farm in Dilley, Texas, sitting with her friends, the Jimenez girls, on Sarah and Delia’s balcony and watching the birds. She shared that love of the outdoors with her daughter and her family and children, going to Wimberley, Texas every year for many years to enjoy nature at the Cypress Acres Ranch.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents Herman Davis and Lucille Mudd Davis.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Kathi Fletcher; son-in-law, Luigi Bai; and grandchildren Maya Fletcher-Bai and Ariana Fletcher-Bai. Details of her service are below. We request that attendees wear masks so that we can all celebrate Jo's life safely.
