With heavy hearts and grateful memories, the family of Ms. Josie Castaneda, age 80, of San Antonio, Texas, announces her peaceful passing on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, she lived a life filled with warmth, faith, and vibrant joy.
Josie found great comfort and community attending Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, where her faith guided her throughout her life. Her spirit was generous, joyful, and welcoming — she had a gift for making anyone feel at home the moment they walked in.
She was an exceptional cook — quick in the kitchen and even quicker to feed anyone who came through her door. She became lovingly known for her perfectly grilled ham-and-cheese sandwiches, a simple dish that somehow tasted extraordinary when she made it. Whether it was a family gathering or a regular afternoon, she was always ready with a warm plate and a warm smile.
She loved to dance, moving with a grace and enthusiasm that brightened every celebration. Her laughter was contagious, especially when she enjoyed a well-earned piña colada — one of her favorite treats. She also delighted in visiting casinos, not for the win, but for the fun of the lights, the sounds, and the little adventures life offered.
She is survived by her daughters Nora Martinez (Mark), Adela Morales, and Bernice Holt (Glenn); grandchildren Mark Martinez II, Mark Leidecke, Tony and Cassandra Martinez, Kayla and Ashley Holt, and Jasmine and John Morales; great-grandchildren Lilah and Landon Leidecke, Alanii Holt, Josiah Rodriguez, and Izaiah and Justus Rubio; along with many other loving family members and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and quiet courage. Though she will be deeply missed, her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
