Josie Chapa Galvan

Josie Chapa Galvan passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 67. She was born on March 19, 1959, in Campbellton, Texas, to Jose and Maria Chapa. Josie faced her cancer diagnosis with unwavering strength and grace, meeting each challenge with quiet bravery and a hopeful heart.

Josie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and life partner who brought love and joy to all who knew her. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Melissa Galvan Castillo, and son-in-law, Ray Castillo; her son, Henry Galvan III; and her cherished grandchildren: Avah Galvan, Logan Galvan and Ayden Galvan.

She is also survived by her significant other, Alfred Garcia; her sister and devoted caregiver, Betty Joyce Peña; her twin brother, Joe Chapa (Alice); and her brother, George Chapa (Ruby). Her family will carry forward the love and memories she so deeply nurtured.

Josie dedicated over 21 years of service to the City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department as a gardener before retiring. She played a meaningful role in beautifying downtown San Antonio and its city parks, leaving behind spaces that continue to reflect her care and brighten the lives of those who pass through them.

Outside of work, Josie found joy in the simple things. She loved thrift shopping, collecting unique trinkets and fashionable finds, listening to music, dancing, and traveling. These small pleasures reflected her vibrant spirit, her curiosity, and her gift for finding beauty in everyday moments.

Above all, her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her grandchildren, daughter and family—moments filled with laughter, truth, and a closeness that only deepened over the years.

Josie’s life was a reflection of love, resilience, and joy. The memories she created with her family will be treasured always, and her spirit will continue to live in their hearts. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Josie Galvan’s family sincerely thanks everyone for their prayers, love, kindness, and support during this difficult time.

Services will take place at Porter Loring Mortuary West, on Friday, August 14, 2026.

A visitation will take place from 5:00 - 6:30 PM, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories and pay their respects.

A Mariachi Tribute will begin at 6:30, as a special musical tribute in honor of Josie’s life and spirit.

The Eulogy, Reflection and Prayer will take place from 7:00 - 8:00 PM.

Guests are welcome to wear lavender or purple in honor of Josie’s vibrant spirit.
