Josie Torres Vasquez, a loving soul known for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering faith, entered into eternal rest on May 11, 2025. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 12, 1947 to parents, Antonia and Jose Angel Torres. Josie was a woman who poured her heart into everything she did—whether it was serving her church, tending her garden, or gathering her loved ones around a table filled with food and laughter.
The youngest of five children and the youngest daughter, Josie shared a deep bond with her siblings, especially her sister, who was her closest companion in life and travel. Together, they made cherished memories, with Josie often reminiscing about their greatest adventure—visiting the beautiful islands of Hawaii.
Josie had a passion for flowers and gardening, and her home was always filled with blooming life and vibrant color. That same joy she found in nature she brought to her church, Outcry in the Barrio, where she was a devoted member and served as their accountant for several years. Josie could always be found decorating the church for holidays, events, and special gatherings. Her creativity and dedication made every occasion feel sacred and full of love.
Family meant everything to Josie. She was the heart of every get-together, always inviting others to share a meal or spend time with her. Whether it was a quick bite at a local restaurant or a full home-cooked feast, Josie never let anyone leave her presence hungry. Feeding her family wasn’t just tradition—it was her love language.
She will be reunited in heaven with her parents, Antonia and Jose Angel Torres; and husband, Serapio Peña Vasquez.
Josie’s memory will forever live in her loving daughter, Toni Gonzalez (Jacob), and Chiva Mendoza; grandchildren, Eddie Peña (Veronica), Juan Peña and
Gilbert Eastin Gil (Arturo). Great-grandchildren, Vivian, Veanna, Christopher, Victoria and Valenna; siblings, Bertha Ortiz (Manuel) and Fausto Torres. Her kindness, strong faith, and generous spirit touched all her extended family, her outcry family and numerous friends she made along her life.
