Joy Ann Christilles, a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on April 14, 2025, surrounded by loving family. She went to be with the Lord at the age of 94. She was born on July 17, 1930, in San Antonio, Texas, to parents, James Raymond Alsbury and Elsie Meyer Alsbury.
She was a long-time member of the San Antonio Conservation Society and past chairman of NIOSA of the Fiesta Decorating Committee. She greatly enjoyed selling tamales at the Tamale Wagon during NIOSA. Also, she enjoyed volunteering at the Salvation Army Women’s Auxillary for the Food Pantry and making crafts with her friends, where she shared love and laughter.
Joy loved being a gracious hostess at family dinners and holidays, being the last to sit down and first to get up to be sure everyone was cared for. She also loved having trips and adventures with her best friends, Patsy and Anne. And her favorite memories were supporting and spending time with her grandchildren.
Joy also enjoyed gardening and tending to her many beautiful flowers. Her yard was a reflection of her loving care and unwavering strength that all was cared for properly.
Joy is survived by her children, Robert Christilles and Susan Poteete (John); grandchildren, Lisa DeAnda (Alex), Julie Christilles, and Christopher Poteete; great-grandchild, Derek Horman.
Those wishing to make memorial contributions in her memory are invited to consider Joy’s loving church-Friendship Baptist Church, 935 Iowa Street, San Antonio, TX 78203.
