Joyce Dietzmann

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joyce Crouch Dietzmann, age 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. She was born at home on June 18, 1929, to Cleo and Ruby Crouch. Joyce graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School where she was a member of the Mustang Band. After graduating, she attended Trinity University to further her love of learning.

Joyce was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in San Antonio, where she attended a weekly Bible study group, worked on the staff of the church library, served as a deacon’s wife, and taught a preschool mission group, Sunbeams.

Her family was the center of Joyce’s life. She gave 100% to her children and their activities by serving as a room mother at the schools, baking special cakes for various groups, and cutting out paper dolls after tucking everyone into bed. She also helped with homework and ran Barbara and Jim all over town for various events and meetings. Joyce loved having her grandchildren and great grandchildren spend time at her house. Meme and Pepa, as the grandchildren and great grandchildren called their grandparents, would take them to feed the ducks, watch the peacocks, and ride the small sightseeing train around Brackenridge Park in San Antonio. They spent hours playing “Old Maid,” “Go Fish,” and various other games together. She was an avid reader, and always had numerous books for everyone to read before she became legally blind due to macular degeneration.

She is survived by her children: Barbara Dietzmann Jinkins and Jim Dietzmann (wife, Sarah Wilkinson Dietzmann); grandchildren: Jennifer Jinkins Bone (husband, Jamie Bone), Beverly Jinkins Pontius (husband, Justin Pontius), Allison Jinkins Lane (husband, Craig Lane), Katie Dietzmann Arnold, and Hannah Dietzmann Greaser (husband, Andrew Greaser); great grandchildren: Madison Lane, Nathan and Avery Pontius, Brooklyn Arnold, Aiden, Weston, and Collins Greaser. She is also survived by Letha Cole Crouch and Kennarlie Crouch Stone (husband, Matthew Stone), as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.

Proceeding Joyce in death were her husband, James Monroe Dietzmann Sr., her parents, Cleo Sr. and Ruby Crouch; siblings: Cleo Jr. and wife, Ruth Perry Crouch, Barbara Crouch Echols and husband, Glenn Echols, Van Crouch, and son-in-law, Dennis Jinkins.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 23, at 2:00 PM at the gravesite at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Reverend Vic Haney will officiate.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Bone, Craig Lane, Justin Pontius, and Andrew Greaser. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may forward contributions to the Television Ministry of the First Baptist Church.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Lucy Woodard and her staff at The Cottages at Danny Kaye, and the staff at AIP Hospice for the commitment, love and care they gave to our mother during the past several years. At times it was difficult for the family to be there with her since we didn’t live in San Antonio. You were her extended family who cared for her and gave her the affection she needed at those times. We appreciate all you did for our mom more than you will ever know. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
