

Joyce will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, sense of humor, and dedication to friends and family. Born in Farmington, Minnesota, on January 11, 1949, to Frank and Mary (Rowan) DeGross of Elko, Joyce was the eldest of four children and always the big sister. Joyce graduated from St. Cloud State University with a teaching degree. She taught in the San Antonio and North East Independent School Districts in San Antonio for over 40 years, primarily preschool and early grades, surprising her family that she loved teaching young children and was so good at it.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, the love of her life, Lupe V. Gallegos. She is survived by her brother, Dale (Sandra) DeGross; her sisters Janice DeGross and Jodi (Jerry) Janda; her nephew Adam; numerous cousins scattered across the country; the Oak Grove and Wetmore families; her friends at the Assistance League of San Antonio; the support groups she joined after Lupe’s death, who were also her travel buddies; a large circle of loving friends and neighbors in Texas, Alabama, and Minnesota; and Jim and Kim Huston and family.
