Joyce graduated from Tonawanda High School in 1948. She was a devoted wife to her high-school sweetheart, Alan “Chick” Power, for over 72 years; a loving mother; a “mom and friend to many;” and a valued associate at Sears for almost 20 years. Faith, family and fun were the three pillars of her life. Her challenging childhood taught her early on that her faith in Jesus would help her overcome all obstacles. She wanted nothing more than to instill this belief in each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Prayer sustained her as she raised three rambunctious sons and two head-strong daughters. Commitment, kindness and encouragement were values she lived by. Happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, she hosted countless birthday celebrations, holiday gatherings, Sears Reunion group luncheons, and breakfasts with their exercise group. On their 25th Wedding Anniversary, they took their first of many cruises. On one of these cruises, they met a group of friends they continued to cruise with throughout the years. They also enjoyed a 50th Wedding Anniversary cruise that included all their children and their spouses. She loved to play a variety of games but Bingo was by far her favorite, especially when played with her great grandchildren and her Franklin Park family. She loved to win but if she didn’t, she’d always say, “good for you” or “way to go.” Whether you called her Joyce, Mom, Mama, Grandma, Gram or Gammy, she held a special place in everyone's heart and will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alan Conrad Power; her parents, Frances “Alice” and Leo J. “Frenchy” Crete and her aunts Catherine “Grandma Hon” Petersen and Florence Welch who were also Mothers to her. She is survived by her sons, Michael Power (Toy), Kent Power (Tanya), and Alan Power (Stephanie); her daughters, Patrice Summerour (Doug); and Mona Power (Joe); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 1:30 at Porter Loring Mortuary North in San Antonio, TX.
