Joyce earned her BA at Southwest Texas University Texas State University at San Marcos, and MS at Trinity University. As a military wife, Joyce taught throughout the United States. She was a school teacher for 39 years teaching the last 20 years at Lackland AFB Elementary. She was a member of Lackland Retired Teachers Association and a member of Highland Terrace United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marshall Clark Rudder; parents, Eula Talley Ewing and Julius Hart Ewing; sister, Norma Chiasson.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Mitchell of Adkins, Texas; grandson: Mark Mitchell, wife Kristy and Drake; granddaughter: Traci Mitchell; great grandchildren: Allen Phillip Butrum and Allison Hart Butrum; many cousins and friends.
