

Juan J. Martinez, Jr., age 81, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. Juan was born on September 20, 1935 in Laredo, Texas, as an only child, to Juan Jose Martinez Sr. and Maria Martinez.
Juan honorably served his country in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Auto Zone in 2001 after working there over 17 years. He was an avid bowler and received many, many trophies. He enjoyed playing softball with his co-workers when he worked for Deluxe Grocery Store. He would often travel with his wife to lots of places such as Las Vegas, Eagle Pass and Louisiana where they would spend their evenings in the casinos gambling the night away. He was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. He enjoyed many happy occasions with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law whom he loved as sisters and brothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Juan is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Hortencia Martinez; daughters, Graciela Newton and her husband, Robert; Nydia Valdez and her husband, Jorge; grandchildren, MariaElena Newton, Ernest Newton, Robert Newton, Jerry Newton, Hortencia Newton, Eddie Newton, Antonio Matthew Lopez; great-grandchildren, Geovannie Sotelo, Michael Sotelo, Gabriel Newton, Evelyn Newton: several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary located at 1101 McCullough Ave.
