April 28, 1954 – August 9, 2026
Juan “Johnnie” Elidoro Perez, age 72, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on April 28, 1954, in Victoria, Texas, to the late Perfecto Perez Sr. and Tomasa De La Garza.
At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served 22 years as a U.S. Army Medic, deployed to Korea, Germany, and Egypt, before retiring and moving into a career in healthcare as the Lead Surgical Technologist at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas. It was while stationed in Korea that he met the love of his life, Un Young, and the two were later married, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion.
In his early years, he went hunting at Camp Bullis and enjoyed fishing at the coast. But those who knew Juan, affectionately known as Johnnie, best remember him most for his caring heart, he was the kind of man who showed up for the people he loved, generous and warm, always putting his family's needs before his own. Relatives often said he was their favorite, always the first to step in and help family members. Juan recently became a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served as a deacon, carrying that same caring spirit into his service to others with humility and dedication.
Juan is survived by his wife, Un Young Perez; his daughter, Christina Orndorff; his son, Christopher J. Perez; and his daughter, Jennifer Warren. He was also a beloved grandfather to Jacob Dominguez, Parker Orndorff, Elizabeth Edwards, Catherine Edwards, Jonathan Edwards, Samantha Edwards, Christopher J. Perez Jr., and Sayuri Perez. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
Above all, Juan will be remembered for his caring heart, the deep love and devotion he gave his family, and the courage he showed until the very end. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
“Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.'”
John 11:25, NKJV
Juan now rests, awaiting the soon return of our Lord and Savior.
