Juan Alex Sanchez

He was born in San Antonio on December 11, 1966 to father Felipe Sanchez and mother Carmela Sanchez. He graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in 1985 and after working several years enlisted in the United States Army in 1989. While in the US Army he learned to fix military vehicles and began his career as a mechanic. After his enlistment in the military, he received two Associate’s degrees, one from the National Education Center and another from St. Philip’s College. In 2004, Alex married Lidia Gomez, and they have lived together in the Briarwick neighborhood since 2010. Together they raised two wonderful children and helped raise two adorable grandchildren.

He is survived by: Lidia Sanchez, Eduardo Perez, Zayra Gonzalez, and her husband Samuel Gonzalez. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother Carmela Sanchez, father Felipe Sanchez, brother Mike Escobedo, sisters Abby Sanchez and Jeanette Veronica Sanchez-West, his grandchildren Julianna Gonzalez and Feliz Perez, nieces Breanna Stapleton and Abriella Escobedo, as well as his five godchildren: Ximena, Abriella, Viviana, Hayley, and Elias. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and family friends.

For the last seven years Alex worked as a Field Service Technician for Kawasaki Robotics. He traveled across all of Texas to fix and install machinery and industrial equipment. In his profession he met and helped many people. Alex loved being a mechanic and an industrial machinist and loved being on the road for his vocation. He said Kawasaki was the best place he had ever worked. He was professional, reliable, and skillful. He was a great teacher, as well.

At home, he enjoyed spending time with Lidia, his family, and his friends - they were his greatest joy. Alex loved laughing, teasing, and telling “dad jokes.” As a husband, he was present, generous, attentive, and considerate. As a father, he was fun, dedicated, educative, protective, and completely irreplaceable. As a grandfather, Julie and Feliz can attest to his playfulness, and as a brother, Mike can attest to his hilarious banter. His aura never dimmed. Whenever he was with his brother, they would find themselves wrestling like the WWE superstars they grew up watching, a cherished tradition that stayed with them from childhood through adulthood. Between the laughter and playful wrestling, they could talk for hours about family, cars, BBQ, politics, WWE, and all the little things that made life meaningful. Their bond was truly one of a kind. He enjoyed fixing things around the house, taking care of his backyard patio, and grilling meals for his family and friends. He loved his dogs Max and Layla, Logan, Mason, Sasha, Princess, and Shadow. His favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas, and they were aggressively celebrated and decorated for. He was old-school, a proud American, and a joy to be around. He was dutiful, he was kind, and he gave the best hugs. His family trusted him and his advice, and often people would call on him to talk about family, home, finances, car repair, or anything that mattered to them. Like him, his advice will always be cherished and remembered for all its wisdom. One of his favorite phrases was -

“It is What It is.”

Like his favorite saying he was 50% humor, 50% wisdom, and 100% fact. Alex was generous with his time and was always prepared to help. His family will always remember him and the good he brought to each and every one. God bless him.

As he goes on his final ride to his next life in the heavens, he leaves a huge community of family, friends, acquaintances, and colleagues made throughout his years. “It is what it is,” and will continue to be with Alex’s love and support. He loved you all and will continue to care for us from where he is now, his final resting place in heaven.

A Rosary is scheduled for Sunday, August 16th, at 2:30pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX. A reception will follow at the same location. The family requests that donations be made to Go Fund Me at https://gofund.me/62215f3a4 to help offset costs of his funeral.
