Juan I. Sonora

Juan lived in Chicago IL until the age of 4 when his family moved to San Antonio TX, where he was raised. Juan graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1983.

After High School Juan worked at Kelly Air Force Base, Department of Defense, as a civilian employee for almost 20 years. He was currently working at Maximus, Inc for the last 11+ years.

Golf was Juan’s passion. He was on his High School golf team, a member of Ft. Sam Golf Club, and a life long member of Pan American Golf Association. He was also a volunteer dad for both of his daughter’s golf teams from Middle School thru their senior year in High School.

San Antonio Spurs were his favorite Basketball team. Houston Astros were his favorite Baseball team. He would sing out loud. He danced the ‘Juan Step’ to everything. His laugh was contagious, if you heard his laugh you would understand. He loved music. All types. But he was a rocker at heart. He wasn’t afraid to try anything at least twice, just incase he missed something the first time, he gave the activity a second chance. He brought joy to so many that knew him and to those he met. He will be missed by many.

Juan was preceded in death by his grandmother Magdalena Martinez. He is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Marissa, daughter Vanessa Mendez, her husband Matthew, and their 3 children, his grandchildren, Ava, Ezra, and Luca.

He is also survived by his parents Gilberto (Millie) and Lidia Sonora, brother Gilbert Sonora and his wife Graciella, sister Marisela Sonora and her husband Jorge and sister Leticia Sonora. His father in law Julian L. Gonzalez, sister-in-law Barbara Perez, sister and brother-in-law Julianna and Alejo Velez. As well as numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

It was Juan's wish to have a private family viewing with no additional services, funeral or fellowship.
