Juana Margary, age 94, passed away on October 26, 2026. Born on January 27, 1932, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Juana built a life grounded in hard work, faith, and unwavering devotion to family. A resident of San Antonio, Texas, she will be remembered with deep respect and lasting gratitude by all who were blessed to know her.
Juana was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband, Gustavo Margary; her daughter, Migdalia Margary; and her grandson, Hector Felipe Perez Margary.
She is survived by her son, Gustavo Margary, and his wife, Sahara Margary; her daughter, Norma Garcia and her husband Peter Garcia; her daughter, Marissa Pineiro and her husband Manuel Pineiro; and her daughter, Diana Milagros Davino; as well as her 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Juana’s early years were shaped by responsibility and perseverance. She completed the fourth grade before circumstances beyond her control required her to leave school, yet she never stopped teaching—by example and by word—what it meant to endure with dignity. Through steady work, steadfast faith, and a deep commitment to those she loved, she instilled in her children and grandchildren the lasting value of perseverance.
Her faith was central to her life and a source of strength and joy. She loved attending church and participating in her congregation, praising the Lord through hymns, reciting poems, and worshiping with sincerity and devotion. In the rhythms of church life and in the quiet constancy of belief, Juana found purpose, comfort, and community.
Juana’s love was most often expressed through care—practical, generous, and heartfelt. She welcomed family and friends with warmth and made sure all who entered her home felt nourished and at ease. She took pride in trying different foods and in preparing meals that became part of family memory: arroz con dulce, majarete, alcapurrias, tortitas de calabaza, and a Thanksgiving turkey seasoned with a touch that could not be replicated. Deeply proud of her Puerto Rican heritage, she delighted in sharing its traditions through food, music, stories, and cherished memories from her childhood, keeping her culture alive for the generations who followed.
Above all, Juana cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She found joy in gathering with them to play Pokeno, and she was known as a champion at chinese checkers. Her devotion extended across any distance; she traveled great lengths, including overseas, to celebrate the arrival of grandchildren and to be present for life’s most precious moments. Her kindness, dedication, and enduring love for family and faith will remain a guiding legacy.
