Juanita J. Black

After high school, Nita married the love of her life, Tom. They moved to Kentucky while Tom attended seminary, and Nita supported his studies by working as an administrative assistant. Later, when Tom entered the Air Force as a chaplain, they lived in several places across the United States, Italy, and England. Through their travels, Nita experienced many famous sites and cultures throughout Europe and England with Tom and their children.

Although she later held several administrative assistant positions, the roles she cherished most were wife and mother. Nita devoted herself to raising her children, supporting her husband, and serving her church, Crossroads Baptist Church in San Antonio, until she developed Alzheimer’s. She was known as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be deeply missed by her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas W. Black Jr.; her parents, Abbie Todd and Onice Clyde Sims Todd; and her brothers, Bill Todd, Bob Todd, Jackie Todd, James Todd, and Gayle Todd. Her remaining sibling, Peggy Todd Andrie, lives in Vero Beach, Florida.

Nita is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Jo Black and Cathy Ann Van Matre and her husband, David; Nita’s sons, Thomas Wayne Black III and his wife, Deborah, and Christopher Mark Black and his wife, Donna; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and her sister, Peggy Andrie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.

We will process at 1:30 p.m. to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery for interment at 2:00 p.m.
