Juanita Helen Gibson Thompson, daughter of John D. and Gladys Hunnam Gibson, at Brookdale N. Fredericksburg went to be with her Heavenly Father on July 28, 2016 at the age of 90. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 14, 1926, and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1943. While she was in elementary school, she and her parents came to know the Lord while going to Taylor Tabernacle during a revival that swept across the City of San Antonio. She and Claude M. Thompson met while he was in boot camp during World War II, and married soon after the war. They attended the International Bible College in San Antonio. In 1956, with little beside faith, good will and courage, they sailed to Japan with their two young children, to share the good news of Jesus Christ with those who had never heard it. As a result, a great many college-age students in Japan (among others) found new hope and faith in Christ. Over 40 years, she and her husband pioneered new churches in Texas, Japan, Hong Kong, and Oklahoma.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Thompson; son, Tim Thompson and his wife Kiki Thompson; grandchildren, Catherine Thompson and Timothy Thompson, and many family and friends, including her church family in Japan and at Destiny Church in San Antonio.
There will be a Service at Porter Loring Funeral Home, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016. The Rev. Archie Alderson officiating.
