Born on July 21, 1954, to Alice and Jesus Villarreal, Judy was the second of nine children. She shared a strong bond with her siblings, Cynthia Villarreal-Rogers (Richard), Rebecca Prieto (Elias), Deborah Villarreal-Hadley (Michael), Jesse G. Villarreal (Kyn), William J. Villarreal (Magdalena), Jeannette Garcia (Ernest), Jerome D. Villarreal (Vanessa), and Patricia Macias (Jerry). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who love their Aunt Judy.
Judy is remembered as a strong, faithful woman. She had a passion for fairness and beauty. Judy’s friendships were just as enduring as her family ties. She maintained bonds from high school that lasted a lifetime, and her adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively, including a trip to Australia for World Youth Day serving as the group’s medic, and a mission trip to Peru with Our Lady of Grace.
Judy dedicated over 40 years to nursing. Along the way she worked in hospitals, opened a Home Healthcare elder facility and worked with private patients. Recalling her many different paths, most of her career was spent in the ICU - the intensity and the challenge suited her.
Judy’s medical expertise became a lifeline for her family who relied on her not just for advice, but for hands-on care, both in everyday concerns and moments of crisis.
Perhaps the greatest testament to Judy’s heart was the way she cared for her parents, day and night through illness in their final years. The house became known to visiting nurses as “the mini ICU” because of the expert level of care Judy provided. Her father’s cardiologist once told him, “You should cherish her—she saved your life multiple times.”
Judy gave so much of herself to others and though everyone who knows her wishes for more time, we are grateful for every moment, every laugh, every hug. We take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, and will be reunited with her parents, and watching over us with that same protective, loving spirit. Rest well, Judy.
We invite family and friends to celebrate her life.
