Judy Marie Brown was born in San Antonio, TX November 13, 1952 and passed away August 21, 2021 at her home in San Antonio with her brother and sister at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Billie Brown, and nephew Chris Hanes. She is survived by her sister Cynthia and husband, Wayne Hanes of Austin; brother Kerry and wife, Linda Brown, of San Antonio; nephews Sam Hanes of Orono, ME, Max Hanes of Austin, Peter Brown of San Antonio; and niece Allison Brown of San Antonio.
Judy’s interest in art probably started with coloring books, but expanded over the years to drawing, painting, many crafts, and photography. Her dad also loved photography and taught her all about it, including how to develop film in his home darkroom. Birthday gifts from Judy were often her own works of art, and everyone in the family has some of these to remember her by.
She worked for eight years at the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, where she became the Arts Program Supervisor and used her artistic talent to create material for talent shows, Fiesta Parades, and other special events.
She also had managerial skills which she used as a supervisor at Simply Books at San Antonio International Airport until her retirement in 2019.
Gardening was a passion she learned from her mother. Her mom had a beautiful back yard, but Judy outdid her. Her back yard had lovely flower beds, but her front yard was the most spectacular in Bellaire. People walking by would often stop to admire her garden, and tell her how much they liked seeing it during their walks. Judy was in her front yard so much, that when a Google-Mapping car came by several years ago, she was in the picture, pulling some weeds.
More important than her artistic and gardening skills was her capacity to care. She was sweet and loving and was happiest when spending time with her family and friends, who already miss her sorely.
