February 14, 1923–January 22, 2013
Julia was a wonderful Valentine’s Day gift to the world in 1923 and the Good Lord took her back home on January 22, 2013.
Julia (Dusty) was the second daughter of a south Texas ranching family from Cotulla. She loved her parents, John William “Jack” Baylor and Helena Price Baylor, and her older sister, Rhoda (Rusty) Harrell, very much.
She lived a life of joy in Texas, living on the ranch, in Houston and San Antonio. She attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She worked her way through school in the office of the president, Pat Morris Neff. She was involved in supporting our men during WWII and wrote many letters of encouragement in their time of need. She was also active in the social scene at Baylor and joined the Pi Phi sorority. Julia was a life-long athlete and was a marvelous tennis player and golfer.
After WWII Julia married a dashing young bomber pilot (and prior junior high school boyfriend) Robert Roos Murray (Bob). They were married September 7th, 1947 and remained a devoted and supportive wife, until her husband’s death October 25, 2001.
Julia and Bob (“the Judge”) lived many happy years in San Antonio and raised two children, Robert and Molly, before retiring to Fredericksburg, TX in 1994. She was active in every church she attended from St. Mark’s Episcopal and Christ Episcopal Church in San Antonio, to St Barnabas Episcopal and Memorial Presbyterian churches in Fredericksburg. She volunteered in every capacity from the vestry to serving Lenten lunches to helping with holiday events.
To know Julia was to be touched by her selfless love and understanding. If you ever needed help or a supportive word, never fear, you were going to get it from Julia. Her smile, personal warmth, genuine caring and love for others had its foundation in Julia’s strong faith in the Lord.
Julia was a life-long student of the bible and found joy and understanding in many bible study programs, including Bible Study Fellowship. She was thankful to God and our savior Jesus Christ for her life and she lived and cared for others as one would who was truly empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Julia is survived by her two children and spouses, including Robert and Kathy Murray of Fredericksburg, and Molly and Brett Bunner of Austin.
Her grandchildren include, Amanda and husband Jacob, and Robert III (Bob); sister, Rhoda (Rusty) of Dallas and her children, James of Dallas, Julie and husband Mark of Houston, Rhoda and husband Ned of Fredericksburg; and many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Julia is survived by her sister, Rhoda Harrell, of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Steve Kinney officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Hill Country Memorial Hospital, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church or Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fredericksburg. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
