Shortly after her birth, the Chickering family moved to Naples, Florida, where Julie spent her childhood at the beach and exploring the outdoors, developing a love for nature that remained with her throughout her life.
She met and married Jimmy Langwell in 1968, and after moving to San Antonio, the Langwell home played constant host to a menagerie of animals, including cats, dogs, birds, fish and countless other critters. Working as Executive Assistant at the San Antonio Zoo for 20 years further expanded her appreciation and knowledge of the animal world, and Julie began to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured birds and other wildlife. She even converted the family swimming pool into a goldfish pond that served as home to ducks, turtles and toads.
Julie also loved writing and gardening, and was a voracious reader. She will be remembered for her kind heart, indefatigable spirit, irreverent sense of humor and willingness to initiate new projects, no matter how crazy they sounded.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Langwell; parents, Leo and Marjorie Chickering; twin sister, Gail Ludeker; and brother, Steve Chickering.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamara Langwell; sisters, Susan Ferguson and Cheryl Gregory; and brothers, Rodney and Jeffrey Chickering and Tom Murphy. The horde of family cats will greatly miss her as well.
