June Ledlow His, age 85, departed Saturday, February 18, 2017 and went to be with her Lord after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Houston on June 18, 1931, she was the only daughter of Faye Wealthy Gaddy and James Harvey Ledlow. She attended grade school in Houston and took great pleasure in studying ballet there with ballet master Katchatofski, a relative of Najinski.
In 1940, the family moved to San Antonio where her father opened an automobile dealership. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School and the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. in English and History. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
After college, she moved to New York to study ballet at the American School. While on a trip to Italy with her mother, she threw a coin in the Trevi Fountain in Rome. Back in New York, she met John Secondari, the producer of the movie Three Coins in the Fountain, at a party. To her surprise, he gave her a free trip back to Rome to be a poster girl for the movie and to uphold the tradition that throwing a coin in the Trevi Fountain will bring you back to Rome. Finally back in NYC, she worked briefly at B. Altman store while she continued her ballet studies.
Back in San Antonio, June began teaching ballet and studying art and especially painting. She studied painting with Cecil Casebier and began taking classes at Trinity University and later at the San Antonio Art Institute and the Anderson Ranch School near Aspen, Colorado. She also began working in photography, copper enamel, encaustic, and collage. In 1977, she was elected president of the San Antonio Craft Guild. She later served as Chairman of the annual San Antonio Zoo Art Show.
June always enjoyed teaching and she taught Art for twelve happy years at St. Luke's Episcopal School here in San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Noelle; and parents. June is survived by her husband, George.
