
Born in Osage City, Kansas, Katherine, "Grandma Katie", grew up with strong values that forever guided her life. Her faith, family, friends and community were the recipients of her gracious love, care, and wisdom as well as lots of cakes, cookies, and casseroles. Her life was full of giving to others.
She was an almost 50-year member of the University Presbyterian Church where she served as both an Elder and Deacon. She served as a moderator of Alamo Presbytery and the Synod of the Sun, Chair of the Women's Committee of Christian and Jews, President of the Trinity University Women's Club, President of Chapter A.L. PEO Sisterhood and Chair of the Board of Morningside Ministries.
She was a member of the Military-Civilian Club, a Board member of the House of Neighborly Service, a sponsor for the Trinity University Gamma Chi Delta Sorority, and a volunteer and contributor to countless other civic, church, and community organizations.
Katherine is survived by her children, Linda H. Ruhmann and husband, Bill; Douglas D. Hawthorne and wife, Martha; Gordon W Hawthorne and partner, Hal Logsdon; and her grandchildren, Becky R.Willmon and her husband, Joe; Elizabeth H. LeFlore and her husband, Campbell; Megan H. McGuire and her husband, Christopher; Gretchen H. Wietstruck and her husband, Eric; Maggie Hawthorne, Bill Edwards and his wife, Nan; Elizabeth Edwards and her husband, Keith Bernstein, and Christopher Edwards. Five great grandchildren, her brother, Fred Webb and his wife, Donna; her sister in law, Carolyn Webb and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Clara Webb; her husband of 55 years, Derwood Linn Hawthorne; her brother, John Webb and her grandson, Bradley Ruhmann.
Katherine was first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a loyal and loving friend. She has indeed left this world a better place and in doing so she has been an inspiration to many.
