I have only just learned of Katherine's death and am so saddened by it. I have thought of her often through the years, though we had long since fallen out of touch. I remember the lively spark she had as a little girl, and the gleam in her impossibly blue eyes, and I am sorry I have no photos of her from that time. I wish the best for her daughter.

Katherine, A few weeks have passed since you went home to spend eternity in peace. You have constantly been on my mind and in my heart. I cannot imagine the pain of your loss, but I do know God has a perfect plan, even when we don't know "why" and He will be with you and guide you during this difficult time. For many years, you, her earthly family, have reached out to her and tried to pull her out of harm's way. Because her pain was so deep and her frailty so great, she could not hold on to the hands of any of you for very long. On April 9, God, in His Infinite Mercy and Wisdom, reached down and lifted Katherine up to Him. He is stronger than we, and Katherine is now held tenderly and safely in His arms. She will suffer no more. We cannot know why the pain of one so young would be so deep. Maybe she suffered for the redemption of us all. Do not torture yourselves with guilty recrimination. You all tried very hard to save her. Rejoice now in her release from pain and celebrate in her reunion with her mother in the Watchful and Loving Gaze of Our Lord.
