She had attended Central High School in South Bend, completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and graduated with a master's degree in library science from the University of Hawaii.
She had served as a VISTA Volunteer in West Virginia, a Dept. of Defense information specialist, and a Dept. of the Army medical reference librarian until her retirement from the Academy of Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston. She was a charter member of San Antonio's Abiding Presence Lutheran Church and served as an officer and volunteer in the Fiber Artists of San Antonio.
