Our beautiful Kathy, surrounded by loved ones and holding the hand of her adoring husband of 59 years, peacefully gained her angel wings on October 12. She lived a life abundant with gratitude and a heart filled with joy. Her laugh and her smile came easily. She loved her family and spending time with them was her favorite thing to do.
Born Kathleen Ann Rollo on February 3, 1944, Kathy grew up on a lake in central Wisconsin, which in her opinion was the best place to have a childhood. She played barefoot outside, swam, fished and ice skated with her siblings as much as possible. Her parents doted on her and she was raised with great love. She met her soulmate, Dale, at 16 years of age and they have been in love and together ever since. They married at 21 and their love story is one for the ages. They had two lucky children and they raised them in a home full to the brim with love. They adventured all over in their purple Jeep and their camper, playing in the mud, in the woods and going fishing. They built an incredible life together, always looking out for each other and making decisions based on the best thing for the family. Dale’s job made moving necessary, and Kathy was always the first to look at that as an opportunity, making it a fun team effort. They relocated to Texas in 1987 and built their lives here. Kathy joked that they got to Texas as soonas they could because it has always felt like home.
When their kids had kids, her heart could not have been happier. Being Gammy was her true calling. She loved to bake and cook, especially with them, and cookies for breakfast were approved at her house. She was blessed recently with a Great Grandson, too. Though physical distance didn’t allow them to be together as often as everyone wished, their time together was precious. They visited every chance they could. Dale and Kathy retired early and took to the road in their motorhome, bringing their dog and cats along. They went near and far, seeing this country and sharing their love of travel with their family. Kathy loved going on cruises and they shared that love with their kids and grandkids, taking them to the Carribean and on their 50th Anniversary Cruise to Alaska.
Having Kathy as your friend meant you had a lifelong friend. She cared deeply and loved big. She will be missed every minute of every day by many. Her grandkids will mourn their Gamilator, her children missing the best Mom, and her totally devoted husband living without his angel here on earth. How fortunate we all are to have had this incredible woman in our lives.
Kathy is joining in heaven her parents, George and Betty (LeCoq) Rollo, her niece, Lisa Rollo, and her nephew, Rob Jaeckel, her Mother and Father in law, Ray and Rose (Krczmar) Schmick and her brother, Bob. Mourning her loss are her husband, Dale Schmick, her son and daughter in law Greg and Jeanne (Wilkins) Schmick, her daughter and son in law Suzi (Schmick) and Chad Tripp, her grandchildren Andy and Ariel (Henderson) Schmick, Brayden Tripp and Tali Tripp, her great grandson Arlo Schmick and her sister, Caryl Ruth Rollo, along with many dear friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Animal Defense League of San Antonio at 11300 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, TX 78217 in Kathy’s name.
