Kathryn Young Sawtelle

Kathryn Young Sawtelle went peacefully to be with the Lord on June 27, 2023. Kathryn was born on January 5th of 1931 in San Antonio to her loving parents Willie Johnson Young and John Edmund Young. She was dearly loved by all of her family.

Kathryn was known to friends and loved ones as “Chula”, which was a fitting tribute to such a beautiful, cheerful and loving friend, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She married Charles Murphy Sawtelle and together they had six wonderful children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Peggy Martin; and her loving daughter, Sarah Sawtelle Knaupp. She is survived by her sister, Ellen Young Ames (Gene); son, Michael Edmund Sawtelle (Lisa); son, William Charles Sawtelle; daughter, Ellen Sawtelle Hill (Bruce); son, Robert Timothy Sawtelle (Julie); son, David Johnson Sawtelle; grandchildren, Matthew Sawtelle (Christine), Travis Sawtelle (Chloe), Caroline Sawtelle, Katie Turpin (David), Russell Hill (Hopie), Sarah Beth Coe (Jon), Thomas Hill, Peter Rush (Samantha), Ellen Rush , Alec Sawtelle, Lane Sawtelle, Finn Sawtelle, Cynthia Kate Sawtelle, Luke Sawtelle and Vivienne Sawtelle; and great grandchildren, Brady Sawtelle, Sarita Sawtelle, Sally Turpin, Davey Turpin, Ellen Rose Turpin, Jack Turpin, Scarlett Sawtelle, Sage Sawtelle, Scout Sawtelle, Bruce Coe, Hunter Coe, Sarah Grace Rush, and Alice Rush. She had numerous nephews and nieces that were dear to her heart. She loved each and every family member very much.

The family is thankful for the precious care given to Kathryn in this past year by Aurelia, Lydia and Martha.

A celebration of Kathryn’s life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, San Antonio Texas 78212, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend, may watch the livestreaming from https://www.cecsa.org/live-stream .
