It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kathy Jo “Kjo” Almendarez, age 72, a devoted wife, mother, friend, mentor, and cherished colleague whose warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone she met.
Born on February 1, 1954, in Dexter, Missouri, to Joette and Jo Wamble, Kathy carried throughout her life a genuine love for people and a natural gift for nurturing, encouraging, and guiding those around her. Whether as a teacher, colleague, Human Resources Director, or trusted mentor, she had a special way of making others feel valued and supported. Her influence extended far beyond the workplace, leaving a lasting impression on the many people fortunate enough to know her.
Kathy earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, building a strong educational foundation for a diverse and accomplished career. Throughout her professional life, she served in a variety of industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, education, and municipal government with the City of Edinburg. She also established her own Human Resources consulting company, where she continued to share her knowledge, experience, and passion for helping others succeed. No matter the role she held, Kathy brought dedication, wisdom, and a genuine commitment to the people she served.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kathy had a creative spirit and a love for life's adventures. Art was among her greatest passions, offering an outlet for her imagination and artistic nature. She also held a special place in her heart for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, embracing the freedom and excitement of riding and reliving memories of her high school days spent traveling to and from on her motorcycle. These passions reflected the many sides of Kathy: creative, independent, adventurous, and always true to herself.
Above all, Kathy treasured the relationships she built throughout her life. As a wife, mother, friend, and mentor, she gave of herself generously and left behind memories that will continue to bring comfort and inspiration to those who loved her. Her kindness, strength, and caring spirit will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched.
Kathy is survived by her beloved husband, Joe Robert “Bob” Almendarez; her son, Kyle Almendarez, of San Antonio, Texas; her brother in law, Tony Almendarez; her brother, Ken and wife Renee Wamble, of Effingham, Illinois; her sister-in-law, Lucy Boyd; Jack and Della Swoboda, of San Antonio, Texas; her aunt, Deloris Wamble, of Dexter, Missouri; and Deanna Wamble, of Laurel, Mississippi. She will also be lovingly remembered by extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and all those whose lives were made brighter by knowing her.
Though Kathy's passing leaves an immeasurable void, the love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her life was one of service, creativity, friendship, and love—a life that made a difference.
