Katie Hensley, age 91, went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2017 in San Antonio, TX. She was born on November 24, 1925 in Stonewall, TX to Alfred & Frankie Burg. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Katie was the second to the youngest in a family of 12 children. The family moved to San Antonio where she attended Breckenridge High School. She and Hulon Hensley later found each other and married in 1941. Throughout more than fifty years of marriage, Katie supported her husband and their amusement company they established in 1945.
God and faith were priorities in the life of Katie. Katie & Hulon were members of Saint John’s Lutheran, Good Shepherd and Cornerstone Churches. Katie made things happen on time. Holidays were sure to include family members and an abundance of food, good times and great stories.
Faithful, optimistic, charitable, and energetic, Katie passed these priorities and attributes to children Deaine and Wayne. Deaine married Carl Matthys and they had three children, a son, Dash and daughters Tara and Paige. Wayne and his wife Sandy had one child, Darin. From these four children Katie was blessed with four great-grandchildren whom she loved to spend time with. She also enjoyed the company of numerous cousins, siblings, nieces, and nephews throughout her life.
Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Hulon Hensley, and is survived by her children, daughter, Deaine Matthys and son, Wayne Hensley, as well as her grandchildren, Darin Hensley, Dash Matthys, Tara Moshier, and Paige Whitmire, as well as four great-grandchildren, Kate Whitmire, Jackson Moshier, Madden Moshier, and Grayson Whitmire.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 27, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home. The Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park. A Reception will follow at the Sunset Reception Hall.
