Kenneth Earl Fisher, known to family and friends as Ken, was born on May 5, 1935, in Vermilion, Alberta, Canada, and passed away on August 17, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. He lived a long and faithful life marked by devotion to God, service to his country, love for his family, and a steady commitment to his community.
Ken was a man of deep Christian faith, and that faith shaped the way he lived each day. Those who knew him will remember him as intelligent, handy, and optimistic, a man who approached life with a practical mind and a hopeful heart. He believed in doing what was right, helping when help was needed, and trusting the Lord through every season of life.
Family was a central part of Ken’s life, and he valued the love and companionship of those closest to him. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Alta Kaye Fisher. He is survived by his daughter, Machele Fisher-Haskin; son in law, Rick Haskin, grandson, Ricky Haskin; son, Bill Fisher; and his daughter-in-law, Yvette Fisher. His family will remember him with love and gratitude for the example he set, the wisdom he shared, and the steady presence he provided throughout the years. His life was a blessing to those who knew him, and his influence will continue to be felt in the lives of his loved ones.
As a child, Ken's parents and family moved from Alberta to Phoenix, Arizona where he grew up with his brothers, Bill and Archie. After graduating from Phoenix West High School, Ken joined the Arizona Air National Guard, which began his long and varied United States Air Force career. He served with honor in the California Air National Guard and on active duty. He later retired from the United States Air Force Reserve as a Master Sergeant. His responsibilities as an electronics technician included supporting early nuclear weapons testing at Eniwetok Atoll in the south Pacific Ocean and airborne radar surveillance missions in Vietnam. His military service reflected his strong sense of duty, loyalty, and perseverance. He was proud to serve his nation, and he did so with integrity and dedication.
He completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California, in 1969, and he carried the discipline and knowledge he gained there throughout his career.
Ken worked as an Electronics Engineer with General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin Corporation in Fort Worth, Texas. Beginning in 1969, he performed as a Field Service Engineer on the F-111 at Cannon AFB, New Mexico and Plattsburgh AFB, New York, and then on the F-16 at Beauvechein and Kleine Brogel Air Bases, Belgium. He returned to Fort Worth in 1983, where he worked on several advanced projects, including the VISTA and AFTI F-16s, and early designs on the Advanced Technology Fighter (F-22) and the Joint Strike Fighter (F-35). His work required skill, precision, and a thoughtful approach, and he applied himself faithfully to every responsibility entrusted to him. He was respected by those who worked alongside him for his intelligence, his steady work ethic, and his ability to solve problems with calm confidence. He was the kind of man others could count on, both in the workplace and in life.
Ken also devoted much of his time to service beyond his profession. He was elected to the Willow Park City Council in 1994, where he served for two years. He was active as an adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America, where he helped guide and encourage young people with patience and example. He served as Vice President of the Aledo Chapter of the Lions Club, contributing to the betterment of his community with the same spirit of service that guided his life in other areas. He was also an active member of the Aledo United Methodist Church, where his faith was nurtured and shared through worship, fellowship, and Christian fellowship.
After his retirement from Lockheed Martin in 1998, he traveled with his wife, Alta, to Belize, Hawaii, British Columbia, Alberta, Belgium, Germany, France and Spain. They cruised to the Caribbean islands, Alaska, and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. They even made it to Turkey to visit their son, Bill. They toured Cappadocia, Ephesus, and Istanbul. His most recent adventure was a church mission trip to Peru in 2016. He helped repair a children's school before touring the legendary Inca city of Machu Picchu.
Ken’s life was one of purpose, service, and faith. He was a devoted husband, father, friend, veteran, and servant of God in the ways he lived and loved. He faced life with optimism, and even in difficult times he remained grounded in the belief that God was faithful. His legacy is found not only in the accomplishments he achieved, but also in the character he displayed and the kindness he showed to others.
As we remember Kenneth Earl Fisher, we give thanks for a life well lived and a man well loved. Though he has departed this earthly life, the hope of the Christian faith reminds us that death is not the end for those who trust in the Lord. May he rest in the peace of Christ, and may his memory remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know him.
A graveside service will take place at 1:00 PM, on September 9, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on September 11, at Aledo United Methodist Church, 100 Pecan Drive, Aledo, TX.
