November 22, 1938 - June 16, 2013
Kenny Ross passed away in the early morning hours on June 16, 2013 at the age of 74. Kenny was born in Austin, TX, to Tom W. and Gussie L. Ross on November 22, 1938. Kenny was the youngest brother among five boys and three sisters. Kenny married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ann Ross and the two of them settled down in San Antonio and had four children, Debbie Ross, Kenneth Ross, Jr., Loftin Karl Ross and Kelly Ross. Kenny and Margaret were married for 50+ years, enjoying life to the fullest before Margaret's passing in 2007.
Kenny followed in his dads' footsteps. Joined the Iron Workers Union, Local #66 in San Antonio, and worked proudly as an Iron Worker in the construction industry for over 40+ years. Those who knew and worked with Kenny knew he was very passionate in his beliefs, a dedicated and hard worker, always believing and advocating for fair wages, benefits and a safe working environment for all union members.
In 1998, Kenny decided to hang up his "tool belt" and transition into retirement life. While skeptical of it being an easy transition, Kenny did finally settle down (somewhat) and enjoy his life as a retiree.
What was most important to Kenny was family. Many, many memories and funny stories have been shared among his siblings, wife, children, grandson and extended family. One of Kenny's most beloved family gatherings was camping on the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels every year. Everyone in the Ross family knows what Kenny was most known for, stirring up trouble, talking politics with his brothers while making breakfast. Thanksgiving gatherings with the Ross family also were very precious to Kenny. Kenny enjoyed the game of golf, especially with his brothers and sons. He was a lover of all games, dominoes, cards, poker and RED DOG.ALWAYS playing for money. Kenny and the Ross clan racked up many frequent flyer miles traveling to and from Las Vegas, hitting jackpots on those addicting slot machines.
While alive, Kenny and Margaret enjoyed traveling to multiple states across the country, taking in the scenic views. After Margaret's passing, Kenny shared his life with his companion, Darlene Mulry, continuing in his traveling adventures with her. One of his most memorable destination with Darlene was to Europe (London, Paris and Rome) in 2011. Kenny enjoyed spending time with Darlene and her family, was loved and will be greatly missed. One of Kenny's most beloved activities with Darlene's family was playing Mexican Train on Friday nights!
At home, Kenny loved just spending time with his children and grandson Brandon. Never sitting down for longer than a minute, Kenny was always outside, manicuring to perfection his lawn, on top of the roof, trimming trees, building or fixing up something or socializing with his neighbors.
Some words that come to mind when you think of Kenny: Accepting, generous, giving, loving, caring, compassionate, fearless, strong willed, passionate, a "jokester," bigger than life personality, the best dad a child could ever wish for, and a loving husband and companion. He was our "Superman" and will be sorely missed by all.
Kenny is preceded in death by his father and mother, T.W. & Gussie Ross; sister Helen Marie Ross; brothers B.L. Ross, Thomas Ross, Darrell Ross and wife, Margaret A. Ross. He is survived by his brother Claude Ross and wife Carolyn; his sister Kay Frances Ross and Sandra Hartely and husband Jim. His daughter Deborah L. Ross, son Kenneth D. Ross, Jr and wife Nancy L. Ross; son Loftin K. Ross and daughter Kelly D. Ross and her spouse Sarah Simmons.
