

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy straight out of high school and served as a gunner's mate in the Pacific during World War II. Following the war, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was accepted into Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 1951. As an officer, he was sent to the Defense Language Institute (DLI) to study Italian. His final assignment before retiring in 1964 at the rank of Captain was in Saigon, Vietnam. Following his military career, Kent worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) in Hawaii, the Philippines and at AAFES HQ in Dallas, TX where he retired after 20 years of service. Kent was an avid reader and writer. He often penned editorials in the Dallas Morning News and authored two books. An avid wood-worker, he designed and built a gazebo from scratch as one of his many projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father, Raymond Kelley; mother, Kathleen Wadasz; Step-father, Louis Wadasz; and brother, Keith Kelley. Kent is survived by his wife, Sue Kelley; and daughter, Maureen Kelley-Parks.
