Kirkwood Smith Hawthorne, age 71, passed away April 1, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born May 28, 1949 to Miriam L. Smith and Francis Earl Hawthorne in Ft. Riley, Kansas. Kirkwood graduated from St Mary’s University with a Master’s in history.
He was devoted to his Air Force civilian career serving the 35the Intelligence Squadron for thirty-seven years. During his college years served as assist librarian at Woodlawn United Methodist Church and usher at University United Methodist Church in the ninety’s. Kirk loved to read and was working on a novel prior to his death.
He was preceded in death by his father F.E Hawthorne and brother-in-law Ronald James Oliva. Kirkwood is survived by his sister, Cynthia H. Oliva of San Antonio, Texas; nephew, Roland Oliva and wife Lindy of Katy, Texas; Annie Oliva Rodriguez of Roseville, California and mother, Miriam S. Hawthorne of San Antonio, Texas.
Kirkwood will be laid to rest in Whitewater Cemetery in Whitewater, Kansas on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
