Lala lived a long, healthy, active and happy life. She attended Navarro elementary, leaving school in 6th grade to go work to help her ailing mother support three girls and a boy in the family.
Lala was a faithful "hija de Maria" at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she married Catarino Ruiz Arévalo on August 13, 1944. She raised seven children while helping her husband operate their neighborhood grocery store for over 25 years. The store was located at the corner of Tampico and Sabinas streets.
Lala was very protective of her family and kept all her children close to her. Most worked in the store from a very young age until they married, went to the military or went to college.
