Larry Richard Schmidt

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Larry Richard Schmidt announces his passing on February 15, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born on July 13, 1949 to Caroll and Julie Schmidt.

He attended Jefferson High School where he met his sweetheart, Cathy Carvel Schmidt. They were married on January 24, 1970.

Larry began working with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1974. His career transferred him from Austin to Seguin, Victoria, Corpus Christi, and finally back to his hometown, San Antonio, where he retired in 2000.

Larry had a great love for family, friends, and life. He always saw the glass as half full. In Corpus Christi, his nickname was "Mr. Optimistic". Larry had numerous hobbies including woodworking, fishing and those monthly poker games with his retired buddies.

He was an excellent cook and loved to prepare wonderful meals for his family and friends.

We will all miss his loving ways and sense of humor. Larry has left a piece of his strength, wisdom, and love with all of us.

Thanks to God for the family and friends who supported us during this time with their love and prayers. We would also like to thank Dr. Lisa Fichtel and her staff, VITAS Hospice Care, and Sandra Lockhart for their loving care.

Larry is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Cathy Schmidt; his adoring daughter and son-in-law, Nikole and Darren Jones; his loving son, Michael Schmidt; "Papaw's" adored grandchildren, Garrett and Lauren Jones; wonderful parents, Julie and Caroll Schmidt; caring sister, Carolene Zehner; numerous nieces and nephews and so many wonderful friends.
