

Lavern Elizabeth Hohle, 95, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Eden Memory Care in Cypress, TX. Lavern was born January 19, 1926 near Kahoka, MO, the youngest of seven children of Henry and Belle (McLaughlin) Muhrer. She was baptized into the Kingdom of God at St. Paul Evangelical Church in Kahoka on August 22, 1926, the church her grandfather helped establish in 1866. She stated her faith in Jesus Christ by the rite of Confirmation in 1942. Lavern attained her nursing diplomas from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and Washington University, both in St. Louis. She was a blessing to many with a nursing career spanning 39 years.
Lavern began married life with Albert H. Doepner on Nov. 27, 1947 in San Antonio, where they were blessed with three children. They were also charter members of Concordia Lutheran Church in 1951. Lavern served her Lord in numerous capacities at the church with Concordia voting her “Woman of the Year” in 1993. She will fondly be remembered for her deep devotion to her faith and her family, her flair for fashion and beautiful table settings, her love of cooking and entertaining for friends and family, and her love of world-wide travel through her retirement years.
Lavern was preceded in death by her husband, Albert in 1981. She married Clarence Dirks in 1986. He preceded her in death in 2001. She married Alfred Hohle in 2002. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2019. Lavern is survived by her sons, Albert Doepner (Toni) of Austin, TX and Mark Doepner (Sue) of Ft. Wayne, IN; daughter, Susan (Mark) Story of Cypress, TX; three step-daughters, Judith (Dirks) Lair (Chris) of Wichita, KS, Monica (Hohle) McGuire (Rocky) of Pflugerville, and Terrie (Hohle) Kneupper (James) of San Antonio; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and ten step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Merle (Madeline) Muhrer, Marvin (Ruth) Muhrer, and Vernon Muhrer; three sisters, Lelia (Frederick) Neuman, Lucille (Alfred) Hess, and Marie Muhrer; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX.
