Lawrence Leland Harper was born September 21, 1930 in Beaver Crossing, NE and went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 7, 2010 at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orvil and Thelma Harper, his brothers, Duane and The Rev. Adrian Harper. His wife of 56 years, Zula Mae Harper also preceded him in death. He is survived by four brothers, Nelson, Richard, Robert, and Ronald, four sisters, Dorothy, Marie, Delta, and Helen. He is survived by his four children, Darrell (Janice) Harper, Gale (Jo Anne) Harper, Sharon (Byron) Spears, Kevin (Brenda) Harper; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Jonathan, Zachary, Amy, Billy, Cory, Cindy, Cherish, Andrea, and Katrina. Survivors also include 9 great- grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members. Leland grew up in Ash Grove, MO then spent 26 years in the Army and traveled all over the world. He served in the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He retired from the Army in 1977 and settled in San Antonio. After his retirement, he kept busy with different jobs such as paperhanger, selling, and repairing lamps at Bussey’s Flea Market, and being a greeter at Wal-Mart. He also spent many hours tracing his family history and brought him much enjoyment. His greatest joy was being Papa to his grandchildren. He loved taking them out to eat and playing board games with them while sneaking in some “life lessons” along the way. The Family would like to thank the staff of Town And Country Manor in Boerne, TX for the tender care they gave our father and grandfather during his final days.
Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX.
