Lawrence D. Mazer, born July 2, 1927 and a lifelong resident of San Antonio whose family dates to 1901 in San Antonio, died March 15, 2002. Larry was a graduate of San Marcos Military Academy and attended the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Missouri where he was in the School of Journalism. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, the Alzafar Shrine, a 32 Degree Mason and the Rotary Club of San Antonio. He was the oldest living Rey Feo and one of the founders of the San Antonio Charro Association. He was a former VP of the San Antonio Jewish Federation and of the JCC, where he was perhaps most proud of his establishment of the Teen Canteen. But nothing compared to his love of family, friends and Judaism. He was not only a brilliant conversationalist but an exceptionally entertaining one. He was a very literate person, with a great love for language and a mind that reflected his broad intellectual interest. But perhaps most of all, Larry is known for his sense of humor and wit. He established Larry Mazer Tailoring, with his clients relationships becoming deeply and personally meaningful. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Esther Mazer; his sister, Barbara Mazer. Survivors are his wife, Bernice Mazer; children, Marc Lowell Mazer and wife, Jaine Cohen Mazer, Suzanne Mazer Schwartz and husband, James Lee Schwartz, Sally Mazer Bell and husband, Larry Bell; grandchildren, Allison and Matthew Schwartz and Rachel and Scott Mazer; sister, Carolyn Mazer Devin; sisters and brothers in law, Sarah and Maurice Aronstein and Annie and Harry Jacobs.
