Nellis Lee Johnson Jr., age 74, of Boerne, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Lee was born on November 15, 1946 in McAllen, Texas, the son of Mary Ellen (Kendrick) Johnson and Nellis Lee Johnson Sr., and is preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Linda Kay; daughter, Kristan Linlee Johnson; son and daughter-in-law Travis Hunter and Diana Elaine Johnson; grandson Peyton Hunter; granddaughter Brei Mikinley; many extended family members, and a lifetime of dear friends.
Lee grew up in McAllen, Texas, and upon graduating from McAllen High School, he played football for the University of Houston. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1967 and was part of the 9th Marines in Vietnam, receiving three purple hearts and meritorious promotions to the rank of E5 during his tour of duty. After returning home he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas. Lee went to work for State Farm Insurance Companies in 1973 and continued to work until his death, 47 years in both agency and management. He moved to Friendswood, Texas, in 1975 where he raised his family, was a deacon of Heritage Park Baptist Church, and a men’s Bible study teacher. Later Lee and Linda moved to Boerne, Texas, where he resided until his death.
He was an avid outdoorsman, but above all, Lee loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved God, his family, and his country. We are praising God that Lee is in the presence of the Lord, where he is made perfect and whole and will spend all of eternity. We will walk together once again in reunion in heaven. Until then, rest in peace our beloved husband, father, and grandfather. “I will exalt you, my God, the King, and I will bless your name forever and ever.” Psalm 145:1
A private family service will be held in Boerne, Texas at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020, until the time when a celebration of Lee’s life for all to attend can be safely arranged. For now friends are invited to share a memory in the online guestbook attached to this obituary page. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the First Baptist Church of Boerne Meadowland Ministry, 631 S. School Street, Boerne, Texas 78006
