Leilani Butz

Leilani was born in Wray, Colorado, the second of three children born to Elmer and Earlene Schildmeier. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Ronnie, her younger sister, Connie, and her parents, Elmer and Earlene.

In 1966, Leilani married Jack Butz, and together they built a life defined by independence, partnership, and family. Jack passed away in 1997. Following his death, Leilani relocated to San Antonio to be closer to her children.

Leilani was incredibly intelligent, independent, and strong-willed, with a sharp wit and a sarcastic sense of humor that she never lost. She was curious and analytical by nature, always keeping up with the world around her, and she had a way of making anyone she talked to feel at ease. She laughed easily and shared her wisdom freely, though she was equally happy just to listen.

As a homemaker, Leilani kept a spotless home and was fiercely protective of her children, while also giving them the freedom to choose and live their own paths. She offered advice generously but always paired it with genuine support.

Some of her greatest joys were simple ones: reading a good book, listening to her favorite 80s music, and meeting friends for lunch. She loved shopping for clothing, jewelry, and furniture, and took great pride and pleasure in redecorating and improving her home. Family and friends could count on finding something new every time they visited. Weekend trips to Estes Park, Colorado, held a special place in her heart, where she cherished quiet time reading in the cabin or outdoors while her husband and children went fishing nearby.

Leilani did not consider herself religious, though she believed in God. What mattered most to her was simply being a good person, and she lived that belief every day.

Leilani is survived by her daughter, Lisa Shears, and her son, Brad Butz.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
