
Lenora Mitchell Mauermann Norton went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2008. A fifth generation Texan, she was born on October 23, 1917 to Julia Wagner and the former San Antonio Mayor, Gus B. Mauermann. Her ancestors came to Texas with Stephen F. Austin and were prominent in establishing Texas freedom. Her great-great grandfather, Asa Mitchell, was instrumental in helping found First Presbyterian, the first Protestant church in San Antonio, where she was a lifelong active member. She graduated from Jefferson HS and the University of Texas at Austin in 1938. She married Malcolm Eugene Norton of Clio, SC in 1941 and served with decorum as the wife of an Air Force Officer. Lenora served as President of the Military-Civilian Club as well as on the board of the San Antonio Assistance League and was a Circle Leader at First Presbyterian Church. She and Malcolm were members of the Lamplighters, the Revelers, and Club Giraud. Lenora is survived by daughters, Julia Norton Keidel and Jennifer Norton Sammis and husband Frank Conklin Sammis III; grandchildren, Major Werner William Keidel II and wife Lara; Julia Mitchell Keidel Troy and husband, Michael; Eleanor McLaurin Keidel Thompson and husband Woody; Kathryn Elizabeth and Frank Conklin Sammis IV; great grandchildren, Grace Caroline and William Keidel; Colin, Malcolm, and Emily Troy; Marinell Thompson; sisters, Julia Hays Kenney Mrs. Nat, Grace Allen Mrs. Charles, and Mildred Morton and husband, Stanley; cousin, Lanette Heilbron Grasscock Mrs. Leon; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is grateful for her faithful and loving caregivers.
