A longtime businessman and philanthropist, he was a founder of Block Distributing Company where he worked as vice-chairman and operations manager for 42 years, retiring from active duties in 1988.
Mr. Block was very active in local charities with a special interest in education and the arts. In 1987, the University of Denver honored Mr. Block by naming the Alumni Center the Leo Block Alumni Center. Mr. Block was also instrumental in establishing several scholarship funds at the University of Texas, San Antonio.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Block; sister, Betty Simmons of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In his honor, a Celebration of Life will be held for Mr. Block on Friday, September 11, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at his favorite spot in the world the Grand Canyon, Arizona.
